Most cataracts are due to the aging process and a chemical change in the chemical composition of the lens. Typically, cataracts don’t surface until the 60-70 years of age. Years ago, cataract surgery entailed a hospital stay with long healing times. Many patients were allowed limited activities. Some patients incurred surgery-induced astigmatism that required prescription changes to their eyeglasses the first year after surgery. But, no stitch cataract surgery has changed all that. It’s a new technique performed on an outpatient basis that takes just 10 minutes, and patients can resume their normal activities right after the procedure. It’s a much better way to treat cataracts. Only a topical anesthetic is used, and the is performed with an advanced procedure known as phacoemulsification. With no stitch cataract surgery in Brandon and no stitch cataract surgery in Plant City, surgeons make a tiny corneal incision to eliminate the cloudy lens of the cataract. Specifically, a sophisticated ultrasound instrument is used to break up the tiny fragments and suction it out. Then, the replacement intraocular lens (IOL) is inserted. The incision is so tiny that it doesn’t require any stitches. The eye is rarely ever red, and there is no need to wear an eye patch.
No stitch cataract surgery is safe and highly effective. Its success rate is about 95 percent. The high success rate of no stitch cataract surgery is due to new technology in high-tech instruments, new procedures and microscope techniques.
